Date of last change (yyyy-mm-dd): 2025.09.19 1. TXT-COMPARE An essential feature of the program is that it formats and indexes the content of two *.TXT files into an HTML table with two columns. All our programs allow indexing and have a very useful interface that allows easy access to all-words index and further searches or navigation. The all-words index is accessible while reading, only by double-clicking on any word (full-text search). This interface and associated functionality are essential advantages over competing programs. Demo: http://www.txt-utilities.com/txt-index/demo_index.pdf In addition to internal links, the program also generates Google search phrases which also point to the web address of the user's choice. DESCRIPTION The program allows simultaneous indexing of two (2) *.TXT files and comparison next to each other in two columns. The programs work in the MS Windows environment as console programs (no graphical interface and he doesn’t need it either). The output document is in HTM format (table with two columns) and indexed throughout the content. An indexed document allows you to search (full-text search) while reading just by double-clicking on any word. 2.1 COMPLEX TXT FILES In some cases (complex TXT files), the program does not perform the transformation to HTML format with exactly the same appearance and content of the original. By accepting the program, users accept these risks, so we do not assume any responsibility for damage caused by errors in the program. 2.2 CAPTURE TXT CONTENT FROM PDF, HTML AND OTHER FILES Most users very often capture content from HTML documents (web pages). The sequence of commands for such capture is described below. 2.2.1 Select all Right-clicking on the menu opens a menu from which you select "Select all". However, care must be taken not to be positioned on any object of the HTML page, otherwise the menu related to this object will be triggered. 2.2.2 Copy You copy the content you marked with the "Copy" command. You can access the command from the menu that you also triggered by right-clicking. 2.2.3 Paste The highlighted content must be placed (deposited) in the TXT document. As a rule, you have previously opened the corresponding TXT document with a text editor, or you are at the beginning of creating a new one. Almost every text editor also uses the TXT format to write their files, so you should have no problem with that. Even the simplest text editor like MS NOTEPAD is more than good enough. Download the copied content to a TXT document with the "Paste" command. 2.2.4 Web links You can also include web links in a txt file if they are written in the form <a href="....."> ..... </a> and do not contain any spaces in the entire HTML element, from <a ... to ... </a> inclusive. 2.2.5 UTF-8 Save as UTF-8 code page. You must save the TXT file in the UTF-8 code page, which later ensures that special characters are printed correctly. 2.2.6 Copy file The file must be copied to the COMPARE_IN subdirectory in the directory where program is installed. 2.3 USING OUTPUT *.HTM FILES FROM TXT-INDENT, TXT-LIST, TXT-PLANNER PROGRAMS You can also copy output unindexed *.HTM files from the above programs to the TXT_IN subdirectory. The advantage of these files is that they have an organized structure and retain it even after indexing with the TXT-INDEX program. 2.4 STARTING THE PROGRAM You run the program by double-clicking on its name in the File Manager or File Explorer. 3. DATA SECURITY AND PROTECTION OF USER PRIVACY The program does nothing that could compromise data security and user privacy.
This document was structured using the TXT-INDENT program.
